Ministry Distinctives
Local Church-Based Strategies
Youth discipleship is ultimately the ministry of the national /local church. Therefore all YMI strategies are supportive, based on local church involvement and direction
.
Adequate Preparation
All International Youth Trainers are fully trained in YMI’s philosophy of local church youth ministry and United World Mission’s School of Intercultural Studies.
Short-Term International Trainers
Youth Trainers serve for three to five years on mission fields where the nationals request our involvement and where there are minimum language barriers and cultural incompatibility. All training is practical and vocational, and relates to the culture and real-life needs of local youth.
Training, Then Leaving
Following training, nationals operate independently to build the kingdom with their own youth. All systems in foreign countries are natural to the culture and are designed to be self-supporting, not requiring continual dependence upon outside financial resources.
Ministry Conferences
In order to assist the nationals, churches, and local missionaries in understanding the YMI philosophy, each new mission field provides an appropriate opportunity to present a YMI Youth Ministry Conference
Training a New Generation of Leaders
On mission fields where the national church recognizes the need for trained professional youth workers, YMI strives to provide itinerant youth ministry educators as well as assist in the development of youth curriculum for local Bible colleges and seminaries.
Ministry Partnerships
In order to maximize available resources for frontline ministry, YMI maintains strong partnerships with other organizations such as United World Mission and International Teams, for intercultural training, recruiting, placement, and operational support.
Financial Stewardship
YMI does not operate from a position of either indebtedness or endowment, believing that the Lord will provide the necessary resources for His work. A major percentage of all donations go directly to the mission field; this is possible because YMI’s efforts are directed largely through volunteer leadership and all International Youth Trainers raise their own support.
